Everyone homesteads for a different reason, but I think at the foundation of every decision to homestead, is a desire for community and joy. Somewhere along the way we forgot how to enjoy the simple things and tasks, and we want to recreate this desire in our children and for generations to come.
I love how Richard Louv said it in his book “Last Child in the Woods.” He says, “… but as the young spend less and less of their lives in natural surroundings, their senses narrow, physiologically and psychologically, and this reduces the richness of human experience.”
We want to experience the goodness of God when we are at a mountain top, in a valley, and every where in between.
